09-05-2020: Workshop

As part of the Mycelia Project, artist, Penelope Richardson did an online workshop exploring the idea of collaboration with the title “How can we cooperate?”. The focus of this ambitious and experimental workshop was to discuss the ins and outs of collaboration, visualize it and to create a one-page artists book together.

Togetherness online. How can we physically collaborate in digital space? Does everybody have to contribute to make it a real collaboration? Is the amount of fun experienced a measure of success? Is collaboration always better than the sum of its parts?

Interaction, learning together and from each other is an imporant part of the cooperative process. Everybody brings their separate strengths to the table.

Everybody plays a role.

But it can be that things fall through the gaps in the collaborative process. Certain choices need to be made, so it may be that some proposals get discarded. But would including these ideas have changed the result?

In this project all the ideas were incorporated to allow multiple outcomes. The visual ideas are shuffled and sorted across the pages of each artists book. Therefore, each book gives a different interpretation of the process of collaboration. Contrasts, conflicts and concilliations can be seen side-by-side.
